The Municipality of Tylisos comprises 11 villages and its total population is 3.491 people. Its economy is based in agriculture, mainly grape cultivation (4,8% of the island’s production) and olive cultivation.
At the same time, one can find two types of stock farming namely: domestic stock farming and industrialised stock farming of sheep, goats and chickens. There are also more than 4,568 registered beehives in the area with more than 2,000 of them in the area of Damasta.
As far as the industrialisation efforts in the broader area, an industrial area has begun its operations hosting 8 businesses to this day. In the area also operate 3 food processing and 8 olive oil production businesses. The area also hosts one of the seven mining zones of the region. Within the boundaries of the Municipality there is also a wax chandler and a pastry shop.
There are also approximately 26 wholesale businesses, two hotels, a museum, 8 taverns, coffee shops – kafeneia, a barber’s shop and a hairdresser. |
